DIY SALT SCRUB RECIPE

DIY SALT SCRUB RECIPE

Besides a good salt bath, a salt scrub is my second favorite way to clear away foreign energies. It’s also a crucial part of my spiritual hygiene travel kit. Fine-grain Himalayan Sea Salt is my favorite salt to use in a scrub because it’s rich in minerals and trace elements, like calcium, magnesium, and iron. I also feel its one of the more purer salts available.

There are obviously countless combinations of essential oils you can use in a salt scrub, but for clearing sticky energies from travel, emotions, or an intense astrological cycle, I stick with the citruses. Yuzu in my absolute favorite citrus for clearing, but can be expensive.  Lemon and Grapefruit are an amazing and effective team for cleaning (not only your house, but your auric field), and are relatively inexpensive.

On a physical level, “Grapefruit essential oil helps to stimulate the lymphatic system and eliminate excess water weight. It also helps to boost circulation and diminish the appearance of cellulite. Studies have found that even smelling grapefruit can boost metabolism and speed weight loss. It’s also very high in limonene, which helps protect cells from free radical damage.

Lemon is best known for it’s ability to cleanse toxins from any part of the body and is widely used to stimulate lymph drainage, to rejuvenate energy, purify skin and act as a bug repellant. According to a study published in the International Journal of Food Microbiology last year, lemon oil may actually be the most powerful anti-microbial agent of all the essential oils.

It should be noted that Lemon essential oil is a phytosensitive essential oil, meaning that it makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight and could result in a burn if going outside shortly after using the oil on your skin. It always astounds me that with all the essential oil hype, many people do not discuss the dangers of phytosensitive essential oils. Here is a link to a web site that has a list of phytosensitive essential oils.  (http://essentialoils.co.za/sun-sensitivity.htm)

A note on carrier oils: You can use whatever oil you’d like for this scrub. Depending on the viscosity and purity of the oil you choose, some will mix better than others with the salt. The reason I use Sweet Almond or Jojoba Oil as carrier oils in this recipe is because they are the closest to your skins natural sebum, which allows them to absorb more easily into your body.

Himalayan Salt Scrub Ingredients

Instructions

  1. In a small glass bowl add the carrier oil with the essential oils. Mix them together with a fork or mini-whisk.
  2. Add in the Himalayan salt.
  3. Store your Himalayan salt scrub in an 8 oz. glass jar. To use, rub all over your body in a circular motion to cleanse and exfoliate, then rinse off. Don’t forget the back of your neck near your occiput and sacrum (lower energies like to pool here!)
